This cartoon construction worker illustration was developed for a regular client of mine who is a graphic designer. He does quite a bit of work with the construction industries, particularly concrete tools and equipment. This concrete construction worker guy was developed as a kind of mascot, with the intent of using him to showcase, in various print advertisements, the tools in his client's inventory. That concrete saw looks like it would be a blast to have in the garage! Who wouldn't want to have a tool that could cut through conrete! This project went pretty smoothly, the sketch (which became the vector artwork above) was approved by the designer's client on first draft, so we went right to final vector art and I completed the illustration as vector art in Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to go for an iconic look to the construction worker since he had the potential to become a spokes-character for the company, and I didn't want to create a character that would get bogged down in too many details. Overly-detailed art, especially with cartoon characters, never reads well when reduced in size. |
