This cartoon mad scientist with robot hand machine illustration was created for a client who develops pre-made websites for resale. This website in particular – myvideograbber.com – is a service where the user could enter the URL of an online video and download it to their computer. Google ads were placed on the site to generate pay-per-click revenue. The concept for the illustration was left open-ended, as I have worked with this client on many projects and we're definitely on the same wavelength – he trusts me to work up something great for him. On this project, the "vieo grabber" phrase just leapt out at me as some sort of crazed inventor type Rube Goldberg component not yet integrated into the entire contraption. I also knew there would be the yello and black construction/safety stripes on the machine as well. A few sketches were worked up to get the look of the hand and the inventor became a scientist, but this one seemed to have been restlessly waiting to get out of my imagination as the sketch stage went pretty quickly, and the client was totally pleased with the initial finished rough sketch. Work was then started on creating the vector art version fom the sketch in Adobe Illustrator, and once the final color cartoon was finished, we moved on to the stylized text. Once the final vector artwork & type treatment were completed, I went on to create a series of web ad banners in multiple sizes as part of the website package for sale. Great project, great client and a piece of final art that I am very pleased with. |
